The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have announced that the NBA will stage two preseason games between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers, scheduled for Thursday and Saturday, October 2 and 4, at Etihad Arena on Yas Island.
The New York Knicks’ roster features star guard Jalen Brunson, a two-time NBA All-Star; Karl-Anthony Towns, a five-time NBA All-Star; and Mikal Bridges, named to the NBA All-Defensive Team in 2022. Both Bridges and Brunson previously played in games held in Abu Dhabi with the USA Basketball team ahead of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, while Towns participated in the NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2023 with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Philadelphia 76ers, meanwhile, boast a star-studded lineup that includes Joel Embiid, the 2023 NBA MVP and a seven-time All-Star; Paul George, a nine-time All-Star; and Tyrese Maxey, a 2024 NBA All-Star selection. Embiid also played in Abu Dhabi with the USA Basketball team in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The 2025 games will be broadcast live across the UAE, the Middle East, and globally, reaching basketball fans in more than 200 countries and territories through television networks, digital streaming platforms, and social media.
These matchups are part of a multi-year strategic partnership between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and the NBA. The collaboration also includes youth development programs — which have attracted around 20,000 participants since 2022 — interactive fan experiences featuring current and former NBA players, NBA 2K League events, and “NBA Cares” fitness sessions promoting health and wellness awareness.
Saleh Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “Our success in hosting NBA games in Abu Dhabi for the fourth consecutive year, in collaboration with the NBA, reflects our strategic commitment to developing basketball and empowering youth in the UAE and the region. We are delighted to welcome two of the NBA’s top franchises, the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers, in 2025, and invite them to discover the emirate’s exceptional experiences and warm hospitality, contributing to Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation as a premier destination for hosting world-class sports tournaments and events.”
